BACKGROUND

For more than 25 years, the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band has been known throughout the United States as one of the nation’s finest marching bands. They have had the privilege of performing for three of the last four United States’ Presidents. The band typically consists of over one hundred musicians, 25 color guard performers, and one or two drum majors.  It is the largest program at the high school.

The Band Director is Peter Horton and the Assistant Band Directors are Tom Whitmoyer and Carman Dragone.

During the winter, the marching band splits into three programs: World Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, and Jazz Band.  We are proud of these units’ performance.

Promoted in 2006, the World Winter Guard is one of 23 units that compete at the highest level of World Guard International (WGI) competition. In 2009 they placed 11th place worldwide.

The Winter Percussion ensemble, which has only existed for seven years, was undefeated and first place state champions in MAC competition in 2007 through 2009.  It has been a finalist in all of its four appearances in WGI scholastic open world competition. In 2009 the ensemble placed second worldwide for the second year in a row.

The Jazz Band performs at local festivals where their performance is assessed.  They also perform at worthy causes such as the Relay for Life.

Band alumni perform in some of the nation’s most prestigious university marching bands including the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts, Cornell University, and Syracuse University.
